Are you a mom or dad who is struggling with an adolescent. If you are the mother or father of a adolescent or teen who is showing signs of behavioral, emotional, or academic problems, you will find great information, and tips on how to assess your adolescent/teen and how to assist them with their issues.
Issues with Troubled Teens:
Teens having issues with parents is quite normal today. Teens are starting to yearn for more independence and they will want to make their own decisions more frequently. However, if your teen appears to be doing self-destructive things, you should not write this off as “normal teen behavior.” If your teen’s behavior has resulted in poor academics, complaints from teachers, or other negative consequences it’s important to intervene as soon as possible.
Troubled Teens Treatment / Tips:
Teens tend to respond better to intervention when behavioral problems are caught in early stages and dealt with as quickly as possible. Parents often find it difficult to identify when a child is at risk for dropping out of school, drug or alcohol use, suicide, and other dangerous or self-defeating behaviors. The goal here is to connect parents of troubled teens to the information and resources they need to quickly identify risk factors and take appropriate action to help their troubled teen.
Dealing with Troubled Teens:
The most important thing that you can do as the parent, is decide which type of program, facility, or organization is best suited to deal with the issues facing your teen. Make sure you do your homework.
Learn about the techniques and philosophies that these different organizations will use to help a troubled teen. Whenever possible, take the time to visit facilities and meet the staff a faculty of these organizations. Get advice from other parents who have been down the same path you are currently on.
